Our committee of SMCCCD faculty and AFT leaders chose Win Shwee based on her dedication to developing sustainable tourism infrastructure in Burma, where she grew up, and her creation of a low-cost tutoring service to provide both education and jobs. Congratulations to faculty at Dominican University Congratulations to faculty at Dominican University in San Rafael, who voted to unionize this week! 84% of faculty voted in favor of a union, and they will now join AFT 1493 as members of the California Federation of Teachers. Dr. Thomas Cavanagh, who teaches business at Dominican, took part in organizing the union drive and commented that “Helping to unionize the Dominican faculty has been one of the proudest accomplishments of my life.” ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏼✊🏾

Huge congratulations to our union siblings at UC-A Huge congratulations to our union siblings at UC-AFT, which represents UC adjuncts. They had planned to strike today and tomorrow but just won an agreement that guarantees robust rehiring rights for every adjunct. Adjuncts went from having *no* appointment security in their first 6 years and mostly being employed semester by semester to having a guarantee that their first appointment will be for at least one year, their second for two years, and their third for three years, after which they’ll become eligible for appointment as Continuing Lecturer.
