Part-Timer Health Benefits
New! Special Open Enrollment for District Medical Benefit Coverage & Changes to Part-Time Faculty Medical Premium Reimbursements
Special Open Enrollment
Beginning October 14 through October 25, 2024, eligible adjunct faculty may enroll in the same SMCCCD District-sponsored health insurance as full-time faculty. AFT won this benefit when it negotiated the Part-time Healthcare MOU the District in June 2024. Please see Article 2 of the MOU for information about your eligibility to enroll.
The District’s enrollment website is now live! Enrollment submissions will take effect on November 1, 2024. Please note that this program is different from our District’s health insurance reimbursement program below.
Health Insurance Reimbursement Program
Effective July 1, 2024, the District has decided that part-time faculty health insurance premium reimbursements will be processed twice a year instead of quarterly. While the District intends to make these stipends taxable as income beginning in 2025, your union is fighting against this outcome.
The reimbursement will continue to cover up to 100% of the single-party Kaiser premium rate and include part-timers with a combined active assignment equal to or greater than 40% of a full-time assignment (six units) at two or more California community college districts, including SMCCCD.
For those planning to claim the reimbursement through October before signing up for District-sponsored insurance beginning November 1, 2024, and for those continuing the claim the reimbursement through FAll, reimbursement paperwork is due December 30, 2024.
For all deadlines and updated reimbursement instructions, please see your October 3, 2024, email message from David Feune (Human Resources), “Part-time Faculty Health Insurance Reimbursement Program,” and visit the District’s website.
