Thanks to $200 million in ongoing funding from the Thanks to $200 million in ongoing funding from the state, our District can get reimbursed up to 100% of its costs for providing adjunct faculty with quality healthcare. Yet SMCCCD still refuses to offer adjuncts—who are 55% of our faculty—the care they need. When faculty have quality care, everyone benefits! It’s time for SMCCCD to do the right thing and give adjuncts the healthcare they deserve
Faculty must have a fair contract so we can focus Faculty must have a fair contract so we can focus on serving our students! At our District’s final Board meeting of the academic year, faculty reps presented Chancellor Moreno and the Trustees with more than 1000 signatures calling for the District to provide faculty with fair wages and healthcare access. Did you know administrators in our District are paid *double* what faculty make, while a similar neighboring district pays admin only 1.5 times as much as faculty? Our faculty are struggling to pay rent and keep up with inflation. It’s time for the San Mateo Community College District to give equitable raises to our teachers, counselors, librarians, coaches, and nurses

Tonight faculty from 6 community college districts Tonight faculty from 6 community college districts that have already agreed to provide part-timers healthcare joined our members to call for our district to join them and do the right thing. They spoke to our Board alongside representatives for Sen. Josh Becker and our statewide union @cftunion. As several speakers emphasized, it’s time for our district to serve faculty, students, and our whole community by doing their part to keep part-timers healthy. Let’s put the community back in community college!
