And The Winners Are…

This year, at the 76th Annual CFT Convention, held March 23-25, 2018 in Costa Mesa, AFT 1493 continued its winning tradition, bringing home 8 Communications Awards in a variety of different categories:

  • Second Place in the category of Best Six-or-more Page Newsletter for locals with more than 500 unit members for The Advocate, edited by Eric Brenner.
  • Second Place in the category of Best Website for locals with more than 500 unit members for aft1493.org by Eric Brenner, Webmaster.
  • Second Place in the category of Best Series for a series of articles about contract negotiations by Katharine Harer, Co-Vice President & Organizer.
  • Second Place in the category of Best Original Art for “Real Lives of SMCCD Part-Time Faculty: A Fact Sheet for Students” by Michelle Kern, College of San Mateo Chapter Chair and Katharine Harer.
  • Second Place in the category of Best Use of Graphics for “Real Lives of SMCCD Part-Time Faculty: A Fact Sheet for Students” by Michelle Kern and Katharine Harer.
  • Third Place in the category of Best Single Effort for locals with more than 500 unit members for AFT 1493 History/Oral History Project by Rich Yurman and Bill Rundberg, SMCCD Retirees.
  • Third Place in the category of Best News Story for “Organize. Resist. Is the glass half-empty or half-full?” by Anne Stafford, Treasurer
  • Honorable Mention in the category of Best Email Newsletter for “The Advocate Newsletter,” by Eric Brenner, Editor.
